Bheki Mseleku is one of South Africa’s finest late jazz musicians. In his time, he was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, expressing himself through piano, saxophone, guitar and singing. He was also one of the country and the world’s finest composers releasing many albums on major record labels collaborating with brilliant artists from around the globe. His music and life moved mainly between Durban, Johannesburg and London where he left an indelible mark. His music explores a personal blend between African township music, church music, Eastern meditative chants crossing over with American traditional jazz and bebop, navigating his search and exploration of the idea of “home”. Bheki was a deeply spiritual person and spent much time working on serving the music as humbly as he could. His music lives beyond him. Sharing more South African jazz with my friends and connections in the USA and the world is one of my greatest passions.
